Project Five-0 supports vocational training for women and girls in developing countries and countries in transition. It is funded by a coalition of five international women’s organisations. The Project grew
out of International Women's Year 1975 and became associated with the
UNESCO CO-Action Programme in 1982. The pilot project was in Calcutta
in 1983, and this continues most effectively today. Click here for the Application form and the Guidelines |

SOROPTIMIST INTERNATIONAL IN DENMARK THE WOMEN’S COUNCIL IN DENMARK
RESOLUTION Translation
Original in Danish
FROM THE PROJECT FIVE-O 25TH ANNIVERSARY CONFERENCE
HELD AT THE COPENHAGEN BUSINESS SCHOOL IN COPENHAGEN
SATURDAY 3 SEPTEMBER 2005
During the Second Women’s
Conference in Copenhagen in 1980 five international women’s organisations,
all accredited to ECOSOC, entered into a partnership agreement to contribute
to the fulfillment of the Plan of Action adopted at the First Women’s
Conference in Mexico in 1975 by offering education to the less privileged
women in developing countries.
The 25th anniversary of the establishment of this partnership, which was named Project Five-O, has been celebrated today at a conference at the Copenhagen Business School, organised by the Danish affiliates of two of the organisations involved, Soroptimist International in Denmark and The Women’s Council in Denmark.
Based on the updated information given at the conference on the situation of women in developing countries where Project Five-O over these last 25 years has helped thousands of women to become educated, selfconfident and enabled to earn an income from the skills learned, and in conformity with the ECOSOC accreditation all five organisations enjoy, the 120 participants in the conference have agreed to the following resolution to the Danish government to be taken into consideration at the forthcoming summit meeting of the UN on the review of the Millennium Development Goals and reforms of the UN system:
· We urge the Danish government to always remember the gender aspect in all negotiations at the summit meeting and draw attention to the necessity of including women in all issues relating to the eradication of poverty, development and education, health, stability and security, and in the internal organisation of the UN.
· We request in particular that all women be ensured education so that they can become economically independent, that women’s exual and reproductive rights be respected, that women be ensured access to health measures and family planning, that they be ensured their legal equal access to land and heritage, and that the be ensured access to loans to start their own enterprises.
· We urge that integrated measures be ensured to prevent and eliminate violence against women, in their homes as well as in war and conflict situations, and not least that measures be taken to eradicate trafficking, including severe punishment for this kind of violence against women, violating women’s human rights.
· We urge that all member states be reminded of the Security Council Resolution 1325 so that women are being represented at all decision-making levels addressing armed conflicts and the reconstruction phase and in the establishment of a culture of peace.
· We urge that all UN member states respect women’s rights to participate in public life, including the right of voting and the right to stand for election to parliaments, and in all decicion-making institutions in society.
Our organisations work incessantly to improve the situation of the least fortunate women in the world, in compliance with the UN Charter, the Human Rights Convention, the Convention on the Elimination of All Discrimination Against Women, Security Council Resolution 1325, Action Plans of the first Women’s Conference in Mexico in 1975 and the following three, not least Beijing Platform for Action, the Millennium Development Goals, and resolutions and declarations approved at the UN Commission on the Status of Women sessions over the years, and in fulfillment of the partnership entered into in Copenhagen in July 1980.
